Level Up!

ASTA Annual Conference

October 28, 2017
Casteel High School
Registration will open August 15

The annual conference of the Arizona Science Teachers Association, Level Up, will be  held on Saturday, October 28th at Casteel High School in Queen Creek, Arizona with a pre-conference institute on Friday, October 27th.  Over 300 science educators will share ideas, be inspired by Dr. Robert Corbin, Director of Global STEM Initiatives for Discovery Education, learn about new curriculum resources, and learn from experts in the field to provide research-based science teaching and learning for all of Arizona's children. Attendees will have over 4 concurrent sessions with numerous workshops to choose from a focus strand:  Real World Science; Practicing the Practices, and Power Up Your Instruction.

·        Real World Science – Real World Science focuses on integration, project based, inquiry, college and career ready, rigorous and relevant, innovative, engaging lessons that provide the opportunity to take students out of the classroom to see science in its natural environment.

·        Practicing the Practices – This strand focuses on the eight science and engineering practices as described in A Framework for K-12 Science Education. When students actively engage in science and engineering practices they deepen their understanding of core science ideas.  The vision of the core ideas and practices in science provides the utility students need to engage in making sense of the natural and design worlds.

 ·        Power Up Your Instruction – Today, more than ever, educators are challenged to know what and how to teach to assure that all students are engaged and each has equitable access to high quality learning experiences. This strand provides strategies to help educators boost their instruction to the next level.
