This presentation teaches students how to take notes in "comic-strip" style. This note-taking method focuses on non-linguistic representation of a scientist's life and accomplishments. It also helps students who struggle with written notes (ELL, SPED, etc.).

Journey 2050 allows students to explore world food sustainability as they make inquiry-based decisions to see the effect on social, economic and environmental factors locally and globally. Agricultural experts and farm families from three countries guide students through a virtual farm simulation, avatar career game and geography scavenger hunt.

In this session we will discuss ways to perform traditional calculations in traditional and non-traditional ways, emphasizing meaning and sense-making instead of algorithm in any method a student uses.

The DISCOVERoom Invention Bin: Creative Engineering with Recyclables

  Using a variety of recyclable materials, masking tape and scissors, participants will engage in "maker" activities and reflection about which of the eight science and engineering practices (as described in "The Framework") were most fully "in play" during the activities, and how such activities might be extended in K-12 classrooms.

Physics of Atomic Nuclei: Classroom Activities and Knowledge for Educators

Use magnetic marbles to teach about the atomic nucleus, radioactivity, nuclear reactions, stellar processes, and much more! Spend hands-on time with models, demonstration equipment, and a mobile game. All participants will take home their own model "nucleus", lesson/activity handouts, and many other resources for the classroom.
